Indonesian Islamic jurists from “The Majma Fuqaha Jawa” held a Nadwah (scholarly meeting) at the Al-Arbain Islamic Boarding School in Demak on Saturday, January 31, 2026. The first Nadwah discussed the Ba’alwi lineage from a sharia, historical, and genetic perspective. The alleged falsification of history by members of the Ba’alwi clan was also discussed.

In the Nadwah, each of the Fuqaha (Islamic jurists) gave a scientific presentation in Arabic. The Fuqaha presenting at the Nadwah were: K.H. Imaduddin Utsman Al-Bantani (NU Cempaka Kresek Islamic Boarding School, Tangerang, Banten), DR. K.H. Abbas Bili Yachsyi (Annadwah Islamic Boarding School, Cirebon), Gus Aziz Jazuli, Lc. M.H. (Al-Mubarak Islamic Boarding School, Cinangka), K.H. KRT. Nur Ihya Hadinegoro, K.H. Ja’far Shodiq Fauzi (Abu Syamsuddin Batu Ampar Islamic Boarding School), K.H. Abdul Ghalib, DR. K.H.R. Ubaidillah Tamam Munji (Asshuffah Islamic Boarding School, Rembang), K.H. Wahib Mahfudz (Al-Huda Islamic Boarding School, Jetis, Kebumen), K.H. Muharrar Hudari (Al-Arbain Islamic Boarding School, Demak), K.H. Faqih Mudawam Hadinegoro (Sunan Ngerang Nahjatussalihin Islamic Boarding School, Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Rembang), K.H. Ja’far Shiddiq (Riyadul Huda Islamic Boarding School, Majalengka), K.H. Mahfudz Saleh Al-Hafidz (Sunan Kalijogo Islamic Boarding School, Jatirogo, Tuban), K.H. Umar Sonhaji, Brebes, K.H. Ahmad Gazali (Assaadah Islamic Boarding School, South Tangerang, Banten), K.H. Rofiq Masykur (Futuhiyah Ali Masykur Islamic Boarding School), Wonosobo, K.H. Abdul Jalil Masbahah (Darussalam Mijen Islamic Boarding School), Semarang, Mursyid Naqsyabandiyah Khalidiyah, K.H. Matori (Bahsul Masail PCNU, Semarang), K.H. Drs. Saifuddin Zuhri (I’anatuttalibin Islamic Boarding School, Blimbing, Malang), K.H. Ahmad Hasan (Benda Kerep Islamic Boarding School, Cirebon). In addition to the Fuqaha (Islamic jurists), the Majma also presented a presentation by a young Cirebon figure, Roqi Maarif Syam.

The results of the first Nadwah of “The Majma Fuqaha Jawa” were then outlined in the “Qararat of The Majma’ Fuqaha Jawa”. In its decision, The Majma Fuqaha Jawa determined:

First: The Ba’Alawi clan, which claimed descent from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the ninth century Hijri, cannot be legally proven to be descendants of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), according to Sharia. This is because their current narrations contradict the books of lineages from the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th centuries Hijri, which do not mention their ancestor Ubaid as the son of Ahmad ibn Isa.

Second: The Ba’Alawi clan is disqualified as descendants of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) historically. Because the eleven names in their genealogical chain, from ‘Ubayd to Mawla Dawila, are fictional and imaginary figures whose existence is not attested to in contemporary historical texts.

Third: The Ba’Alawites are genetically invalidated as descendants of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This is because genetic testing of the Y chromosome of Ba’Alawite family members indicates that they belong to haplogroup G-M201, specifically under the genetic mutation G-Y32613. Meanwhile, results for those whose lineage has been legally and historically validated as descendants of the Banu Hashim in Mecca, Medina, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, and other regions indicate that they belong to haplogroup J1 (mutation L859), such as the Qatadah (former Emir of Mecca), the Sulaymaniyah, and the Hashemite ruling family in Jordan, the Banu Al-Rassi (Imam of Yemen), and the Al-Qandil in Egypt.

Fourth: Members of the Ba’Alawi clan have been proven to have falsified historical records, including the Indonesian National History, the history of Nahdlatul Ulama, and the histories of prominent national figures. They have also built fake tombs in Indonesia and linked them to unknown ancient figures.

Based on the four points mentioned, The Majma’ Fuqaha Jawa recommends the following to the Indonesian government:

First: Prohibit the Ba’Alawi clan from claiming descent from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Second: Punish those who have falsified history and built fake tombs in accordance with Indonesian law.
